A one-of-a-kind collectible wall sculpture by SKajie, hand-carved from solid kolatier wood and transformed through an ancestral burnt-wood technique.
Matter explores what lies beneath the surface: the layers we inherit, the traces we carry, and the forms that slowly emerge from experience.
Repeated passages through fire deepen the wood to an intense charcoal black, revealing grain, fissures and reliefs that cannot be entirely predicted. Raised circular forms emerge from the surface like fragments coming into view, suggesting that what defines us is rarely contained in a single layer.
Part of Cartographies of Fire, Matter invites us to look beyond appearances and consider what time, memory and experience quietly leave within us.
